Personal Growth: Lessons from an Educational Conference

Recently, I traveled to an education conference and gained valuable knowledge about working with you and how we can continue to grow together. I share this to emphasize that even after completing your studies, there is always room for growth and learning. We must continue to evolve and learn together. I thought I would not only share my takeaways, but give you my video intro for the 3rd day of the conference. Enjoy both.

A few takeaways from my last trip.

  1. Networking is valuable. I had the opportunity to be in a room with nothing but educators, and we were all different in our skills, but we had a passion for mindset growth and learning.

  2. Conference Speakers are for that injection of reality. I witnessed so many tips from speakers at this event that I wondered how they grew. What allowed them to share their knowledge, and what do they love about what they are doing?

  3. Eating good food is a must. There were opportunities for me to “grab a burger.” However, I was hunting for food with high ingredients and nutritional value. I had my share of salads, soups, and various roasted veggies and fruit. But, I must say, I had to stop by my favorite spot.

  4. Reflection has to occur. When one goes to a conference, thought has to be a priority for anything you do regarding learning. You have to pull out all of the information that is valuable to you, take the “stuff” that you don’t think is important, and put it in a folder. You read that correctly! One day, you may find yourself looking for those gems.

  5. Rest. I took advantage of the hotel and their service. I made sure to take advantage of their services. I took some time to rest and prepare myself for the upcoming day. I made sure to stay hydrated by drinking water. I wanted to be attentive to what new tools and skills they would bring.

Did you just read what I just outlined for you? I used my suggestions and put them to use at my last event as a doctoral student or one who is considering taking this route. You have to create your place for growth. Stepping out of your comfort zone is a must, and trust me, and I had to learn how to do that around these “Edumacated Peeps!”
