Revolutionize Your Thinking Forever with This Game-Changing Book

Neon Lettering of Books

I'm excited to announce a game-changing book! The new quarterly reading initiative! It's time to delve into captivating books, keeping us at the forefront of health science. Let's embark on this journey together!

Taking the opportunity to read a book quarterly came from my intent to read for personal and professional development. It happens so often that we read books and don't share much with those we communicate with. It's almost like keeping all the golden gems to ourselves. We should not take this path because we must share and learn what we are doing to develop ourselves as educators.

I enjoy telling stories, and this is a must-share: When I was teaching English to students at the high school level, I had our dean of instruction sit down with our team and stated that she was rolling out a new part of the curriculum that would include our students to read 10 (ten) books for the semester. You read that correctly! The wild part was that the ten-book process would start that semester. All that flowed through my mind as I still had a curriculum that had to be taught and the ten books on top of this. Creativity had to rush rather quickly, and it soon came to fruition.

The lesson I learned about this was that so much can be learned from reading a book. You can use that book to teach grammar, learn writing structure, vocabulary, and so much more. This is where I came to the idea that we would share the love of reading four books this year, and the book placed at the top of the list is THE CHECKLIST MANIFESTO: How to Get Things Right by Atul Gawande.

I recently attended a live Continuing Education Unit (CEU) session titled "Defining and Addressing Quality Gaps: Pain Management in EMS" with speakers Dr. Remle P. Crowe, Ph.D., NREMT, and Dr. Jamie Kennel, Ph.D., Paramedic. They led a discussion on closing quality gaps in EMS pain management, emphasizing using NEMSQA measures like Trauma-01 and Trauma-03 to assess and improve performance. One recommended health equity book was "The Checklist Manifesto."
